The town of Elon’s Arbor Day Celebration was held this past Saturday, March 19th, with more than fifteen organizations participating, including Alamance County Beekeepers. Club President Ira Poston, Jeff Telander, and Jay Rimmer had the opportunity to talk honey bees with the many interested community members.
The exhibit materials—bee suit, demonstration deep, an observation hive (with some of Ira’s bees), smoker, photos of bees and flowers, and even a plush varroa mite—were a hit and helped clarify explanations.
It was heartening to see how fascinating everyone—adults and children alike—found honey bees. We can’t speak for the attendees, but the beekeepers certainly enjoyed themselves and look forward to next year’s event!
